Hello and welcome to the Coffee with your Therapist Podcast, the podcast where we talk with people in the Counseling field about their careers, their work, and the music they like, all in 20 minutes.
This episode we talk to Nicole Runyon, she is a Parent Coach, Keynote Speaker and a Psychotherapist.
Nicole has a very interesting take on Technology and Child Development. In her work she noticed that psychotherapy was not very effective on her young clients, and this set her thinking, she realized that it was the landscape and culture that they live in. She was particularly concerned about the effect of Technology and social media on children because of peer pressure, bullying and exclusion and other negative effects on their mental health.
Nicole turned her attention to the Parents and how they are parenting their children in the age of abundant and accessible technology. She does this under the umbrella of Parent Coaching and she helps them develop tools to better raise their children.
Nicole says that children around the age of 12 and up, are developing their own self identity and need to go through periods of discomfort as they develop their personalities. Nicole noted that that parents need to let their children know that they should expect in some situations that they will feel uncomfortable and that they can work through it.
Nicole says that Parents often need to work though their own discomforts firstly to enable their child to grow and to be themselves.
Nicole struck me as emphatic, pragmatic and a very clear communicator and it was a pleasure to talk to her and learn how she helps parents and their children.
Finally, Nicole picks a classic pop song for us to playout with. Enjoy!

Hello and welcome to the Coffee with your Therapist Podcast, the podcast where we talk with people in the Counseling field about their careers, their work, and the music they like, all in 20 minutes.
We are talking with Dr Madhav Bhargav who completed his PhD Research into the Mental Health of young people and particularly University Students.
Madhav relates a very funny story about how he learned about Trinity college Dublin and why he applied to go there.
When he got to Trinity he became involved in the Graduate Students Union and was elected as the VIce President. He was the first sabbatical officer from outside the EU and North America, which tells you something about his appetite for new challenges.
In his PhD, he focused on how young people / college student’s mental health is impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). He goes into detail as to how the research was conducted and how Quantitative Psychology and Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) can be useful in understanding mental health problems in young people.
Currently Madhav is a post-doctoral researcher at National Suicide Research Foundation (NSRF). His research as a postdoc focuses broadly on the implications of suicide and self-harm related behaviour on public health and psychological well-being. He is also a Visiting Lecturer at Trinity College Dublin.
Madhav can be contacted via LinkedIn or via his website: https://madhavbhargav9.wixsite.com/madhav
https://www.linkedin.com/in/madhavbhargav/
Finally, Madhav lets us know how he relaxes by reading, running and by being a “Coffee Nerd”. He plays out with a great song – a modern classic. Enjoy.
The podcast is sponsored by Myndgard – we work with Therapy Clinics and their Clients to reach better outcomes in a faster, more insightful, secure, and trusted process using our Myndgard App and Cloud system.
In particular Myndgard manages Wait List Triage for Clinics. We do this by building a useful Mental and Emotional model before the Client enters therapy, so reducing the Therapists workload. We can identify Clients who need earlier intervention and help identify at risk clients while they are waiting.
We also provide a Post Therapy relapse identification service, as earlier intervention brings a better outcome for the Client and the Clinic.

Hello and welcome to the Coffee with your Therapist Podcast, the podcast where we talk with people in the Counseling field about their careers, their work, and the music they like, all in 20 minutes.
This episode we talk to Manus Hanratty, he is an experienced Technology Executive who has also worked in Social Entrepreneurship Projects, both nationally and Europe wide.

He also has worked with ‘Fast Track to IT’, or FIT – a charity that helps unemployed people to learn computer skills and to start a career in the Industry, its been very successful throughout its history.
The reason I asked Manus to come on the Podcast is about his concerns of the impact of online Bullying, Porn and Adult content on Children and Young Adults accessed by the medium of the Smart Phones.
Manus spells out very clearly the danger and the actual damage that has been done and is happening now. He then spells out his proposed solution which, I believe, has strong grounds to be considered. I’ll leave it to you to make your mind up.
Finally, we play out on an absolute classic tune, as always.

This is a big part of Elena’s work, and she talks through how she recognizes these patterns and how she helps Clients reduce their stress levels and maintain their family relationships.
Thank you, Elena, for a very interesting and insightful commentary on how stress affects people in their modern lives and how you help them manage it.

Hello and welcome to the Coffee with your Therapist Podcast, the podcast where we talk with people in the Counseling field about their careers, their work and the music they like, all in 20 minutes.
This episode we talk to Dr Lawrence Shapiro, who is the CEO and Founder of Between Sessions, about how Artificial Intelligence can help Therapists - https://www.betweensessions.com/
Lawrence is a very interesting guest with a background in Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, and entrepreneurship, having been the founder of several companies in the field.
Lawrence has always looked for practical and pragmatic tools and games to help in the Therapy experience. He has great insights into the practical and emotive side of Therapy that means that the tools, which Between Sessions offers, are focused on exactly the issues that Therapist faces.
Among the Between Sessions tools available are:
AI Progress notes – can be a chore but should be a useful tool that measures progress.
AI Treatment Plans – something else that therapists can struggle with, can be greatly simplified by AI recommendations.
Lawrence believes that AI has great possibilities to aid and transform the work of the Psychotherapy and has some very interesting insights.
Thanks, Lawrence, for being a great guest!!

We are delighted to have Mark O’Neill and Dr Moayed Hamza of HAON Life Sciences as our guests on the Podcast. HAON is a company that is developing a novel cell therapy for new born brain injury, a very exciting technology that promises to change new born brain injury in a radical way.
Mark and Moayed talk about how HAON is developing and where the product is on its Clinical Path. We delve deeply into the Entrepreneurial mindset and what it means to be an entrepreneur. We discuss how to work together as a team, how to complement each other and how to handle disagreements.
We also cover how to manage Mental Health as business people and as family people, each of our guests having young children. We discuss the importance of having life balance and physical exercise.
The conversation turns to how to deal with third parties in the Entrepreneurial journey, how do you assess and handle feedback, and to differentiate as to what feedback is relevant and what isn’t. We also talk about the phenomenon of “Irish Culture” feedback and what that means in practise!
This is a great Podcast for anyone considering becoming an Entrepreneur and what it means to their mental health and how they can manage it.
Finally we finish out on a song that’s new to me but is very upbeat and hopeful and very appropriate.

We are delighted to have Dr Dale Whelehan as our guest on the Podcast. Dale started as a Physiotherapist but decided he would do a PhD in Behavioral Science. Dale relates to us how he took this journey.
As a result of this, he is now CEO of an NFP called 4 Day Week which is an advocacy and education group that encourages companies to consider why a 4 Day Work week can actually increase productivity and employee well-being.
Their tag line is to deliver 1 million hours of free time, something I think is very interesting and will make a difference.
Dale talks about how the NFP helps SMEs to change and make a 4 Day week work for them.
Finally, we talk about Dale's experiences in running Marathons and how it initially was a bad experience but ultimately he had a positive experience this year, completing the Marathon. We end up with a very relevant play out song that Dale enjoys.
Enjoy

Hello and welcome to the Coffee with your Therapist Podcast, the podcast where we talk with people in the psychotherapy field about their careers, their work and the music they like, all in 20 minutes.
This episode we talk to Dr Colman Noctor, well known Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, Lecturer and Columnist. He talks about his new Book “The 4-7 Zone” which asks us to look at why we need to be at either extreme. Colman points out that being comfortable with the middle is the healthiest and best outlook in many situations.
We talk about the impact of Social Media but Colman also says that Parental pressure is a big factor, we discuss ways that this might be countered. Colman says that the most powerful idea we can use is “Cop On” or Emotional Intelligence.
There are six things we should examine in ourselves including Biology, Psychology and Socialising. The book gives us techniques and case studies to help us, literally, re-centre our outlook and self worth.
We talk about whether there is space in Sports for casual and fun adolescent participation rather than escalating competition.
We finish by talking about music and I found out that Colman plays an instrument and how he remakes “dance” songs in his own style. And finally Colman plays out on a classic song.
